1. There are two main types of plywood:

Decorative Plywood is made from a decorative veneer surface (or face) with a more expensive piece of wood and is used for interior applications.

Structural or softwood plywood is “raw” plywood and is mainly used for exterior applications.

2. Plywood is typically more cost effective than solid wood and offers more decorative styles.

3. Finply (also known as Finnish plywood or Europly) is a plywood made up of many thin, light colored plys of wood, usually Baltic birch. Finply is valued for its decorative edge and has the best performance including screw hold, modulus of rupture (strength against breakage) and modulus of elasticity (strength in flexibility). It is considered a premium plywood product.

4. Marine ply is plywood that has been specially treated to be more moisture resistant and it is usually used in applications such as boat cabinetry..

5. Plywood was first developed by the Ancient Egyptians but the technology was lost until the European cabinetmakers of the 18th century revived it.
